How to rock a black and white skirt! April 3, 2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — fashionfruits @ 1:25 pm

I could not resist and went out there and bought it! I am talking about the little black and white skirt from Kohl’s that I blogged about on my last post. I must admit that love at first sight is hard to fight! It is getting hotter outside and I needed to breakaway from the winter chains and dive into spring. Cherry blossom is a breath away and since I am attending the festival, I wanted to blossom myself and look like a 50′s movie star! :) This is how I am sporting the skirt tomorrow at cherry blossom…weather permitting!!!

All of the above can be found at http://www.forever21.com as well as any forever21 store!

Flower attack! March 30, 2009

Filed under: Fashion — fashionfruits @ 1:47 pm

One of the trends of the season that I enjoy the most is the florals. This season is all about them. Floral tops, dresses, skirts, accessories…Flowers are everywhere, blossoming and giving a girlie and innocent touch to our everyday life.

Last weekend I shopped for floral skirts and ended up finding some bargain priced awesome looking pieces at my neighborhood’s Kohls and at kohls.com!

Here are some of my favorites:

On the left the apt. 9 skirt comes in three colors: coral, blue and green which is the one featured, at $27.99 only!

The skirt in the center is my favorite colorwise. You can find it at $25.20 both online or at a store near you.

The Joe Benbasset floral skirt on the right is a timeless one because black and white is a combination that will never “die”! The price is $24.99 and it sounds like a really good investment.

My next post will be all about “how to sport” those girlie skirts! Love them…

During the weekend I went on one of my favorite hunts…the headband hunt. I needed some serious “bling” for my hair so I headed for the mall!

Feather Headband, Forever 21

Feather Headband, Forever 21

Flowers and bows are very trendy and in for the season but what is absolutely hot are feathers, in every color and size. I am particularly into peacock feathers; I think they are serious “movers”. One of my favorite places to look for rocking head pieces is the Forever 21 store or even better – if you want to avoid the crowds – their website at http://www.forever21.com! Under a strict budget of $25 I bought 4 head pieces each one with a distinct character and on top of all, I covered all the hair trends of the season.

Friday Night … “drama” night! March 20, 2009

img_7473aspromavriI finally did it yesterday … It has been a while now that I wanted to go for the dramatic red lips trend but I never dared to do so. I always thought that red lipstick looks either trashy or you end up looking like you have just escaped from a circus. Therefore, you can imagine my surprise when I ended up looking like a classy femme fatale!

In order to get a successful red lip look I followed one simple rule. Red lips pop out so you should lay low on the rest of your make up. A neutral eye shadow, some mascara and a soft blush is enough. Less is better in this case.

Mac Glam I

Mac Glam I

Another rule that I follow whenever I intend to put dark lipstick is condition my lips so I can get rid of the dead cells.

Mac Chili

Dark lipstick shows every flaw on the lips and who wants to end up looking like Dracula? So, take care of you lips in advance. What I usually do is I rub them softly with a toothbrush and then put on a sheer lip balm.

So, don’t be afraid to go red…Pick a shade that you like or mix and match and rock it!

A couple of my favorite red lipsticks are Glam I and Mac in color chili both by Mac Cosmetics. You can find them both at maccosmetics.com or at a mac store near you!

Spring outerwear crisis…averted! March 19, 2009

Filed under: Fashion — fashionfruits @ 8:22 pm

It is this time of year again; the time when it is too hot for a winter coat and too cold for a jacket…So what do I wear over my outfit on a night out? I squeezed my brain and I finally came out with a solution: The spring coat!!! It can be classy, it can be edgy, it can be cute and it is very Carrie Bradshawish! I love it! So, I did my little web research and came up with a couple of interesting pieces at prices really hard to beat! So, here they are…

Forever 21 Foliage Silhouette Coat

Forever 21 Satin Floral Coat

Forever 21 Satin Floral Coat

I immediately fell in love with this forever 21 trench coat on the left. The foliage like print is very hip and classy. It can be worn during the day or night and looks great on every silhouette! It comes with a patent belt that can be removed and it would look absolutely HOT with a pair of red patent pumps! At $39.80 I think that I will buy two!!!You can find it at http://www.forever21.com!

Another very interesting piece that I found at forever 21 is this satin coat on the right. I find the floral print both edgy and hip. Along with the bold color this becomes a coat to kill for! Wear it when you want to make a statement! Sport it with a pair of yellow killer stiletto heels and become the center of attention! Its price is $39.80 and you can find it online at http://www.forever21.com!

Go Green! March 18, 2009

Filed under: Fashion — fashionfruits @ 8:12 pm

Yesterday was St Patrick’s Day and a good opportunity to GO GREEN! So I put on my green dress and went for a round at the bar.
Now, green is a really tricky color and difficult to wear without looking like a wood elf! Halloween occurs once a year in October if I remember correctly ;).
Below I found a couple of nice and not so pricey dresses that are on the green side and look really cute with a pair of leggings or jeans!

Gabriella Rocha Ana dress

Nine West Barbe Pumps

Nine West Barbe Pumps

The dress on the left is a Gabriella Rocha dress that I found while browsing the zappos website! It is really cute and wearable both for day or evening. Dress it up or down depending on the time of day. You can find it at zappos.com at the very convenient price of $49.00.

The dress on the right is a kensie floral dress and is one of my favorites – it can also be found at http://www.zappos.com at the very convenient price of $90.00 -. I love the colors and the shape and the length is something that you can play with…You can wear it with or without leggings.

Both dresses look absolutely HOT with a pair of lime green Nine West Barbe pumps! I am a proud owner of these pumps and I get complemented all the time for them! I got them from zappos at $68.95 and they are one of my favorite pairs of all time besides the fact that they are really chic and comfortable at the same time!

Nail Spa at home March 17, 2009

Filed under: Beauty — fashionfruits @ 9:02 pm

Today I spent the day at home turning  my bathroom into a nail spa. The truth is that not all of us out there have the time or the money to spend on beauty salons. Believe me, our bathroom can easily be turned into a spa of our own!

The tools I used where the following:

  • Vaseline healthy hand and nail conditioning, 3.1 Oz $3.49 at Walgreens
  • Pedi bean by Trim , $7.99 at TargetVaseline Hand Lotion
  • filer
  • Olay Body Thermal Pedicure Foot Treatment, 4.9 Oz $9.86 at drugstores
  • Nail Polish Nicole by OPI in “Ink a Dink a Pink”, $6.99 at Target

The total cost came to a mere $28.33 and it is for more than once!! I ended up having my feet and hands ready for spring and  I enjoyed doing it myself and at a convenient price!!! I will do it again soon! You should try it too!

Tip of the day: You will be surprised on what a little vaseline hand lotion can do to your feet if you massage them regularly with it after taking a shower! Calluses and hard skin will disappear and never again will they appear. Try it and you will see.
